the b side starts with >voodoo<, which combines grimey bass and strings with offbeat drums to odd, driving effect and finishes with >xx< which sounds like a long lost golden era 8-bit grime instrumental but with deft production tweaks and fx that keep it interesting and effective.

excellent deep funky disco, spaced out disco with dubby flavours

goose hat sie schon immer gehabt, diese laute dance-music-with-rock-attitude, schon auf ihrem 2006er debütalbum bring it on. ihre bellenden synths, schreienden vocals und wuchtigen energie-levels sind längst zum festen bestandteil der justice/ed banger-szene geworden. auf >synrise< macht die band einen ausflug in die 70er- und 80er-jahre, in die zeiten von space disco wie automat und 80er-filmsoundtracks, mit musikalischen koordinaten wie philip glass, giorgio moroder und vangelis. das resultat ist mehr als nur die summer dieser teile: es ist ein album voller dance-tunes mit klaren pop-strukturen. das beginnt schon mit dem titeltrack >synrise<, einem jetstreaming-soundscape von moroder-artigen synth-arpeggios, die sich hochschrauben zu einem gastauftritt von peaches. >words< dagegen könnte problemlos als vintage chemical brothers track durchgehen, während die sich verlierenden sphären von in cars den einfluss von trance mit klaxons-style-vocals kombinieren.

the kat edit stable pops back up and throws a couple of biggies into the pot ... first up is conscious of my conscience, which shouldnt really need an intro whatsoever. an out and out all ends up classic and a track largely overlooked by the masses when first released on the album conscience back in 88. mr beedle makes this sound bigger than ever with some wicked but subtle extensions & tweaks along the way. on the flip we have time is running out. ashley beedle takes the stevie winwood original, strips it bollock naked and re-dresses this into a wonderful psyched-out disco funk soul rock odyssey masterpiece. over 10 minutes of pure balearic dancefloor goodness, pure n simple. big ! oh, and on a super loud 12 inch pressing..

solid as it should be, a chuggy serious drive is shown, combined with well constructed raw hats loops. a very smooth disco influence is noticed on the vocal cuts and a funky >lead padding< in the background. the hotcomer leland mcwilliams is showing his interpretation of the track in a funky and tribal way. percussions and a shakers, combined with a funky baseline and a short house lead.

you just wouldnt write a weird piano melody, put it through all your distortion pedals then write an epic post-disco jam around it. basically that doesnt work… or at least shouldnt… but das moth (aka: tokyo-dwelling dj, producer and punk bassist tim sullivan) has provided us with proof to the contrary in his debut 12 inch release featuring >moon< and the aptly titled >wrong<. yes it works, and its genius. we wont do any more head-scratching on how to describe this release, except to say that the vinyl is an absolute must-have, also featuring proto-house workout from heavyweights kink & neville watson.

gem sampler 2.1 and 2.2 come just in time for a gem records >amsterdam dance event showcase< at the westerunie on saturday october 24th including a big poster and advert campaign for the sampler! artists featured on gem sampler 2.1 (gem006) are secret cinema and tom laws who both dropped a big fat techno bomb and peter horrevorts who supplies us with a huge peak time loop-disco techey stomper. nice… on gem sampler 2.2 (gem007) egbert provides an energetic yet deep and hypnotic techno track while roger martinez delivers a giorgio moroderesque italo influenced tech houser. on the flip, its kaap de goede hoop who bring some warm deep housey flavours to the mix and arjuna schiks who finishes it off with a big funky percussive groover.

>bite sized beats vol. 1< has two smoking cuts from flapjack veteran wattie green. the first cut >flip mode< is a great throwback to the jack of i:cubes hit disco cubism. utilizing the same slammin key sample, wattie slices it up just right and puts in the smoker very early in the morning. after about 8 hours, it comes out and is seasoned to perfection with his solid beats and break wisdom resulting in one hell of a delicious dance floor bomb.

next up on nang we get tooled up with our disco pick-axe to mine one of the most authentic italo vaults, that of once-forgotten-but-now-hero-again beppe loda. having begun djing in brescia aged 16, loda was resident at gambaras soon to be legendary typhoon club from 1980 until the club closed in the same year as the paradise garage, a year before acid house officially began in 1987.

raised in the parisian suburb with a background of multiple genres throughout her life : from rock and new-wave to electronic music such as synth-pop, minimal techno, jungle, house, disco and 90s hip hop, malilones productions have helped express her influences and incorporate her emotion into the dubstep tempo we all love. malilone production has seen support from producers like matt-u, von d and bunzero as well as featuring in numerous dj gigs from paris to berlin.

z records deliver a very different sounding record to what you would expect from them. instead of the more soulful/disco sound they ve opted for a more filtered spacey affaire. it has dare i say it a fairly similar sound to >call on me<. its nowhere near as commercial sounding as >call on me< so don t let that put you off though.ltd backstock

nach dem massiven erfolg, den die gebrueder zenker mit ihrer definition von munich techno einfuhren, kommt nun endlich moechte man meinen die nummer 2 auf harry klein records. diesmal teilen sich die harry klein residents benna und kid.chic die split-ep.benna schneider, resident der ersten stunde, debuetiert hier auf ganzer linie mit seiner ersten produktion und erweitert die klanglichen parameter des harry klein sounds um eine neue richtung weird house. bereits in seinen sets zeigte sich stets eine gewisse affinitaet zu psychedelischer wirrnis, doch angesichts dieser zwei stuecke wuenscht man sich in der tat, dass bennas psychiater diese scheibe niemals zu ohren bekommt. darueber hinaus gibt auch der (releasetechnisch) ebenso jungfrõuliche kid.chic seine premiere mit einem elegant reduzierten housetrack, durchsetzt mit subtiler disco-aesthetik, die den moment der ersten sonnenstrahlen noch einmal perfekt ausformuliert. damit wõre auch alles gesagt, eine split-ep zwischen wahnsinn und liebe.
